Description
Come stay in our totally remodeled alaskan train car. This train car was moved to its currently location in the 1990s by former alaskan governor Frank Murkowski to be used as his guest house on the Chena River. We have completely updated and remodeled the inside to have all the comforts of home while still retaining its historic past. The train car has a bedroom with a queen bed, a full bathroom with a stand up shower, a cozy living room, a kitchen and a back room with built in bunk beds.
Interaction
There will be a lock box with a key but we are local to Fairbanks so if you need anything just give us a call.
Neighborhood
It is on a large 3 acre lot right on the Chena River but you do share a driveway and yard with our other vacation rental the “Governor’s House”.
Access
There will be a coded lock box with a key to unlock the door on the front of the train car.
Space
The space is a shot gun style. When you walk through the front door you enter into the open concept kitchen, dining and living room. To your left is the bedroom with the queen bed and bathroom, to your right down a small hall way is the room with the bunk beds. You do need to go through the bedroom with the queen bed to get to the only bathroom. Also the interior walls do not go all the way to the ceiling to increase airflow and heat, so sound will travel.
Transit
We recommend renting a car as uber, lyft and taxis can unreliable. Also if you are visiting in the winter please rent a vehicle with 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive.
Notes
The train car does not have an oven. There also about 3 stairs to get into the train car. It is heated by an oil burning toyo stove and electric wall heaters. The floors can be chilly so bring slippers or cozy socks. It shares a drive way with a larger house that is also a vacation rental.
